As part of its community programme, two of the iconic Warwick Hotels and Resorts – Pacific on the Coral Coast, Warwick Fiji and The Naviti Resort, have completed another roadside clean-up and added a beach clean-up to the quarterly event.
Teams from the resorts in collaboration with young people from the neighbouring communities came together for the morning in the initiative designed to create community awareness to ensure the Coral Coast region’s natural beauty is maintained.
It was an early start as the teams met at 8.00am in the various locations, with garbage bags and gloves, to comb the areas picking up an assortment of rubbish. The vicinities covered by the two sister properties were from Maui Bay right up to Beach House Resort in the Colova Settlement, along the highway as well as the beachside areas surrounding the properties.
Warwick Hotels and Resorts Fiji Community Liaison Officer Mereisi Ratulevu said they were delighted by the continued support from the local communities to assist the initiatives of Warwick Fiji and The Naviti Resort.
“The elimination of litter is an important measure towards protecting the community from potential mosquito breeding grounds” Ratulevu said.
“The resorts’ commitment to the local community and the reduction of their environmental footprints will ensure guests arrive at a beautiful and litter-free Coral Coast,” she added.
She said the latest campaign, the second for the year, saw an increase in the number of participants from the local villages and believed the programme’s continuing message had been effective with young people keen to keep their communities litter-free.
The environmentally conscious participants celebrated their mornings’ efforts with morning tea provided by the resorts.
In addition to the quarterly roadside clean-up campaign Warwick Fiji and The Naviti Resort ,as part of their commitment to the environment and the communities on the Coral Coast, provide a twice monthly bulk rubbish collection for the villages of Naboutini, Navutulevu, Namatakula, Komave, Navau, Biausevu, Votua and Namada.
